John Shively has been living in Steamboat Springs since 1977. He is originally from Peoria, Ill. John started his working career in Steamboat as a ski instructor for the ski area during the winters and doing home building during the summers. He worked at the ski area for 14 years.

In 1983 John and his wife Kate started Shively Construction, Inc. Since that time they have built and remodeled many of Steamboats finest homes.

John has served on the Steamboat Springs Planning commission as a member and chairman from 1987-1998. He was a member of the advisory committee for the adoption of the city and county Green Building Code. He is also a member of the Ski Town Rotary and President of the Yampa Valley Construction Trades Association.

Together with his wife, Kate, they raised two daughters in Steamboat Springs. In his spare time he enjoys snow skiing, scuba diving and slalom water skiing.
