Water: It's your Resource

The Mount Werner Water District (MWW) and the City of Steamboat Springs have adopted a COMMUNITY WATER CONSERVATION PLAN in cooperation with the Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB).

"Water conservation is a key strategy in developing a sustainable community; it demonstrates responsible stewardship of our water resources and responsible management of our infrastructure and financial resources. By raising citizen awareness, a conservation program can also prepare the community to respond effectively to drought conditions or other water emergencies and to accept and adapt to progressively more stringent conservation measures."

2012 Projects

Apres Ski Way Water Main
This project will replace and upsize 1,200 feet of water main in Apres Ski Way between Village Drive and Ski Trail Lane. This project is of strategic importance to strengthen the water supplies between the Base Area and the South District.

This project is scheduled to begin May 14 on Apres Ski Way at Village Drive and proceed east along Apres Ski Way to Ski Trail Lane. After the new pipe is on-line, our contractor will be re-connecting service lines for The Phoenix, Ironwood, and The Ptarmigan Inn. We expect the project to be completed by July 20.

Burgess Creek Wastewater Collector
During the summers of 2012 and 2013, the District will replace and upsize 3,000 feet of existing sewer main along the lower Burgess Creek corridor. This sewer main collects the wastewater from all residential and commercial entities in the Burgess Creek Basin including the Mountain Base Area and conveys it to the Valley Interceptor which runs north along US 40. This replacement is a strategic project with the goal of increasing collection capacity to accommodate existing and projected demand.

Construction will occur in two phases per the following plans and specifications:

Phase 1 will start at the southeast corner of Wildhorse Meadows, proceed uphill to cross Burgess Creek at lower Eagleridge Drive and then follow Eagleridge Drive to the Burgess Creek crossing by the Canyon Creek Condominiums, cross Burgess Creek again, and proceed east to Village Drive. Phase 1 (2012) is scheduled to begin July 9 and be completed by October 5.

Affected properties include: Eagle Glen, Chadwick Place, The Meadows, Waterstone, The Cascades, Canyon Creek, and The Evergreens.

Phase 2 will continue north along Village Drive to Apres Ski Way and then cross Apres Ski Way to the east side of the Dulany Condominiums. Phase 2 (2013) is scheduled to begin July 8 and be completed by September 15.

Affected properties include: The Highmark, Market on the Mountain commercial plaza, One Steamboat Place, The Dulany Condos.

The District recognizes the inconveniences of construction; its contractor will endeavor to minimize noise, dust, and traffic for affected residents and visitors. We are working with property managers to ensure that we have effective communications with residents and visitors during this project. The District has conducted a wetland study and has been issued a permit by the Corp of Engineers.
