James "Jim" Randall

James Randall accepted his position on the Mount Werner Water District’s Board of Directors in June 2006. His work experience in the petroleum and chemical industries includes 15 years with ExxonMobil that preceded his retirement in 2000. Previously, he worked for Phillips Petroleum Company and before that, Monsanto. He was a section manager for Phillips and ExxonMobil, and he spent 13 years as a senior scientist at ExxonMobil (both managerial and scientific assignments in polymer physics).

Besides his role with the Mount Werner Water District, he serves as vice-president of the Ridge Road Community Association in Steamboat Springs, and he is an usher for Strings in the Mountains. In Oklahoma, he served as an Explorer Scout leader, a Sunday school teacher, a church deacon, a member of the physical activity board for the Bartlesville YMCA, and a Little League coach. He organized the “Run for your Life” program at the YMCA and the city’s first “Cross-Town 10K Run.”

He has degrees in chemistry from the University of South Carolina and Emory University, and he has a Ph. D. in Physical Chemistry from Duke University, where he was an Eastman Kodak Fellow. His prolific writing career includes authorship of two books (Polymer Sequence Determination: 13C NMR Method, Academic Press, 1977; and NMR and Macromolecules, ACS Monograph 247, 1984) and contributions to 60 publications and eight book chapters. He holds 16 patents, and in 2001 he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of Plastics Engineers. He is an expert in nuclear magnetic resonance, a fore-runner to the present day MRI (magnetic resonance imaging).

He has spent his retirement years serving as a polymer industry consultant. He and his wife, Schrader, have four children and nine grandchildren.
